The Australia Oriental Media Group announced today that, under its Chairman Richard Lu JP, it hosted a splendid New Year Charity Gala Dinner on 29 December 2019. Over 500 guests attended this dazzling event including dignitaries such as leading politicians, Chinese community leaders, and overseas Chinese community members from around the world.
The event opened with speeches from Philip Sansom, Emeritus Mayor of Hurstville City Council, Tony Maroun, Emeritus Mayor of Burwood and Strathfield City Council, and the media group’s Chairman Richard Lu.
The curtain was raised on a dazzling combination of singing, dancing and violin accompaniment, including dances by children from Australia Oriental Chinese Class. The American violinist Jiazi provided the violin accompaniment and soprano Sophia performed an appealing song, The Seven Lotus Flowers. Friend, Follow Your Heart, Come Home Often and many other classical songs were performed by famous vocalists including Jenny, Feng Jing, David, Anthea, Sophia and Nika. Peking Opera artist Ms Zhao from Japan presented a well-known piece The Drunken Beauty, fascinating the audience with her beautiful voice and graceful movement. The renowned Australian tenor Darryl pushed the gala to the climax by performing popular songs including This Is the Moment and You Raise Me Up.
Apart from the singing, poem recitation and dance were also presented. The Chinese classical dances performed by young dancers from the Australia Oriental Media Dance Troupe took the audience back to ancient times. The curtain finally fell on the beautiful Chiense classical dance-Dunhuang.
The entertainment also included a lucky draw, a welcome surprise to the audience. Combining both eastern and western characteristics, this gala was a great audio-visual spectacle aimed at fostering exchanges between the Chinese and other communities in celebrating the New Year.
